Problem Wounds are defined as wounds that fail to show improvement in four weeks or complete healing in eight weeks despite standard medical and/or surgical intervention. These may include: diabetic foot ulcers, compromised amputation sites, vascular insufficiency, non-healing traumatic wounds. All these wounds have the underlying problem of tissue hypoxia. At Advanced Wound Care, we have the expertise to properly diagnose the etiologyof the wound and treat it accordingly. Our scope of care includes the treatment ofwounds at any part of the body, including upper and lower extremities, abdominal and sacral. We also treat wounds caused by diabetes, vascular disease (arterial, venous, lymphatic, vasculitis), radiation, trauma, and pressure. Our goal is not only to heal chronic wounds, but also to preserve limbs and prevent wound recurrence. Our experienced nursing staff teaches prevention, coordinates care between specialties, and monitors wounds (size, depth, appearance), as well as nutritional status and control of diabetes. Working with a Wound Care Center to help patients with non-healing wounds or ulcers. One of the questions physicians and care givers ask is 'when should I refer my patient to a Wound Center?' Most centers are staffed with physicians trained specifically in the use of advanced wound care technologies. Not only are these centers uniquely equipped to administer these therapies, they also offer follow-up education for patients and caregivers to ensure optimal healing and prevent recurrence. The knowledge gained by tracking outcomes consistently is applied to each treatment plan to accelerate healing and improve each patient’s This is particularly important as technology and advances continue to become available. Woundcare centers usually have the ability to assess and modify the situation; stage, assess and treat the wound to provide an optimal environment for healing (debridement, infection control, moisture balance, biologicials,) introduce adjunctive modalities if clinically indicated, educate patients, caregivers and other healthcare professionals.
